This weeks recommendations:
Hackman - Close
Heard this on Skream and Benga's Radio 1 take-over last week. Such a good song with incredibly feel good vibes. Out digitally now on Greco-Roman.
Dead Man's Bones - Pa Pa Power
Dead Man's Bones have been around for a while and released their self-titled debut album in 2009. The band is made up of the beautiful Ryan Gosling and his friend Zach Shields. The album is a collaboration with the Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir, which gives the songs a slightly spooky feel. It's an eerie album, and this song is my favourite. Although it's been on my iTunes for a while, it oddly enough features in the new Actimel advert and so my attention has been brought to it once again. Whilst the brilliance of the music is undoubtedly down to Gosling and Shields, it is the choir that gives these songs that special edge.
Mad Men Season Four
So this week I finished season four of Mad Men and I'm devastated it's over! I'm going to have to wait far too long for season five so I honestly feel a little lost! I really don't want to go into things too much as handing out spoilers for Mad Men will surely bring about bad karma - it is too good to spoil! The characters were more enigmatic than ever and the less obvious relationships between the likes of Draper and Peggy, Joan and Sterling really began to blossom. The writing is just pure genius as, although not a lot happens in terms of plot twists and inciting incidents, the characters are just incredibly well formed. The look and feel of the show gives you such a sweet taste of the sixties that never before will you have felt this nostalgic for it. Whilst no one died, nothing blew up and nobody went bankrupt it still managed to end with a Mad Men style bang and left me unbelievably anxious to see where it will go to next. If you haven't watched any of the seasons get to it now, as even if you don't enjoy the first three (what is wrong with you?!) the fourth will make it all worthwhile.
